Dance studio for sale, New York State

Yesterday I received an email from a dancer/choreographer/dance teacher/studio owner (Tina) in New York State who will be selling her space to move on to a third career (wow!). There are multiple studios housed in a former synagogue in Endicott, NY. It looks like a beautiful space and a wonderful place to learn, with plenty of students, both past and present.

I’d imagine it would be a very difficult place to give up, but also a fantastic opportunity for the right person, which is why I felt it was important to get the word out on the winger…
getting it out to people who will understand her love and connection with the space!

Below is a note from Tina, and if you follow the link afterward, you can see more photos of the space and more detailed information about it…

“My happiest memories as a child were spent in a studio trying to look graceful and gain the attention and praise of my teachers.
As long as I can remember I wanted to dance. That dream is still a burning desire for many young dancers today.

To keep that flame burning, dance needs dedicated dancers to perpetuate the circle.

I have done that and it has been a most rewarding second career. Passing on what I knew and loved created professional dancers, benefactors and full houses of theater-goers who might otherwise be couch potatoes.

As I have come to a crossroads and the beginning of my third career, I would like to pass on what a have created to the next generation.

I realize that when you look on a map and see where the school is located your first reaction might be negative. Take a deep breath.
For professional couples looking to start a family, it’s suburbia complete with safe streets, good schools, lots of antiques, plenty of opportunities…
An opera, a symphony, and just 3 hours from NYC, Philadelphia or the Adirondacks. Ask around, not all of your colleagues grew up in a city.
Remember how proud your teacher was when you made it….that could be you.

Thanks, Kristin
from another romantic thinking dancer,
Tina”

The more formal description…

I am a former classical ballet dancer that transitioned into a teacher,
choreographer, director of a ballet school in upstate New York. The school
is a very successful school with nearly 100 serious students. The current
curriculum is classical ballet and Pilates. We have run additional programs
in the past of jazz modern and flamenco. There is also a ongoing rental of a
swing dance group.

Now that I am at another crossroads in my life, I am looking for someone who
is at the junction I was at twenty years ago.

Or……

This would a great set up for a dance / theater / production group out of
NYC who could use the space for ongoing rehearsals….lots of space for
peanuts compared to a NYC rental. Then commute to the city to perform or
tour. The second / addition part of the building could easily be converted
to living space…or buy a house locally. Real estate is very reasonable.
Shows could put up for a fraction of the price. There are theaters at the
community college and state university in addition to alternate performance
sites that could be used to create the lighting plots which can be rented
for as little as $500 a day.

The studio is located in Endicott, New York which is 3 hours west of NYC.
The 6256 sq. ft building was a former synagogue that I renovated.

Upstairs is a large studio approximately 50×32 with a Marley covered sprung
floor, mirrors, fixed and portable barres, piano and sound equipment. There
are 5 beautiful stained glass windows, a partial stage and three closets.

On the landing there is an office with another large stained glass window, an
alcove with two small stained glass windows and another closet.

Downstairs the studio is slightly smaller 40×24 with a Marley covered L’air
floor, mirrors, fixed and portable barres, piano and sound equipment.

There’s a small room that is a changing room for staff, bathroom, kitchen
and utility room.

Then an additional building was added on by the Temple which is 7 classrooms
(either 10×9 or 10×14) and two bathrooms. I use three rooms for waiting,
girls/boys changing rooms, three for costume/prop storage and one that I
turned into a small coaching studio with L’air flooring, fixed mirrors and
barre.

It’s a great space with good energy. The building or building/business is
for sale.

Thank you,

Tina Christina-Price

Just had to say how I absolutely love the windows and the fact that it’s built inside of an old synagogue!

I found this very moving. I myself am a crossroad in my life, which is why I was looking for dance schools for sale. I lost my home in Hurricane Katrina and had to move into my father’s home with my daughters. I have decided that maybe I should leave New Orleans and find another state that could offer more for my special needs child. I wish the owner of this dream school all the luck in the world.
