My friend, Julia Hollas, takes gorgeous photos. She’s also a really fantastic dancer who’s recovering from knee surgery. And she’s working in arts administration… Basically, she’s an amazing person of many talents.

Here’s a photo Julia took of Melanie in a rehearsal with Alex:

And one of Hallie:

And here’s the link to her photos on flickr in case you want to take a look round. I’ve just discovered how deceptively addictive flickr is. Click click click. Endless photos to see… Wow, it might be worse than youtube.

I’ll vote for the black and white…. B&W photos and dance work well together. That’s a winner.

I agree, SanderO, B&Ws of dance can be stunning. Roy Round’s photos of Carmen and Marcelo are the greatest B&W’s ever :) :

I think when ABT performs they should take over that gallery in the Met with ABT dance photography, including blow-ups of Roy Round and Fabrizio Ferri…

Oh wow, I’ve never seen these before — they don’t have these up on the ABT website (only one of Diana and Vladimir). They need to update their photo page, that company! I know, we were talking about the Michalek project, which fascinates me and I can’t wait to see it, but I definitely disagree with people who say dance photography is lacking and you can’t capture the beauty and awe of dance through a still picture.
