Alston on tour!!

I am always super proud of my students when they venture out and spread their wings. I am a firm believer in experiencing as much as you can, learning and growing from it.

This year again, Alston Macgill, 11, has been chosen as Clara in the Columbia City Ballet Nutcracker. Last year she did just the first half of the show. This year, not only is she doing the whole thing, but she has been asked to perform on tour with the company. She learned the entire role just yesterday and her first performance is in about a week and a half. In addition to that, she also has the lead role of Minnie in the STUDIO’s performance of “Swingin’ at Club Sweets”.

Alston has been my student since she was 5 years old!! I cannot even begin to express how proud of her I am. She has already become a seasoned professional! Here are some shots from her rehearsal on Saturday in Columbia, SC.

At 11 years old this is a child who is mature and composed beyond her years. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her. Congratulations Alston!

I had the wonderful experience of spending the day at the Columbia City Ballet when I accompanied Alston and her mom to the Nutcracker Rehearsal. The Columbia City Ballet, under William Starrett’s direction, demonstrated an incredible work ethic and impressive skill level. Special thanks are extended to Mariclare Miranda, Katie Smoak, and John Karim for their patience in teaching Alston her new role in the second half of the show. What a special opportunity for Alston to partner with a professional dancer!
