Exciting news: The final competition round of the Prix de Lausanne will be broadcast live on Sunday 3 February, starting at 3.00pm CET (Central European Time). To watch the competition, simply click here.
The Prix de Lausanne is an international ballet competition that takes place every year in Lausanne, Switzerland. Dancers between the ages of 15 and 18 have been competing in this year’s 36th annual Prix all week long. Judging them are some big names: Altynai Asylmuratova (Kirov Ballet), Elisabeth Platel (Paris Opera Ballet) and Anna Maria Prina (La Scala Ballet). Hamburg Ballet’s Director and Chief Choreographer John Neumeier is serving as the 2008 President of the jury.
This year, the finals will not only feature the competitors, but will also showcase two of Neumeier’s works. The first will be his Opus 100, in tribute to the late choreographer Maurice Béjart. The second will be Yondering, which will feature students from the Hamburg Ballet School, the Paris Opera Ballet School and the National Ballet School of Canada.
If you weren’t able to purchase tickets to the sold-out performance or if, like me, you are not able to attend the performance in Lausanne, this is a most excellent and very accessible alternative. Also, for anyone who is interested, the Prix de Lausanne has set up a videoblog to chronicle the competition experiences of six participants. Check it out here.

Hi Susan,
Thanks for sharing this story. The videoblog and upcoming broadcast of competition looks great.
There really have not been many dance video blogs, especially ones that turn around the videos so quickly so you can follow the event as it develops.
If others know about similar video blogging and live webcasts, I’d be delighted to hear about them.

the live broadcast over the net isnt working. i got it for what 10 seconds then it froze then andother 10 seconds with only sound. if there going to broadcast it live over the net they should make sure that there server can handle it cos it seem to be too slow for everyone to watch at once. love to know if anyone actually got to watch it on the net. cos its pointless for most.

I saw this competition on Mezzo tv in France and was wondering if you were able to help me.
I saw two marvellous acts. One was two young dancers dancing to Simon and Garfunkels Bridge Over Troubled Water and the other was probably a collection of Irish songs danced by young men and women which was also very good and the singing was marvellous.
Are you able to tell me if I am able to get this programme on a dvd as I am unable to get broadband where I live and I want to be able to see these dance routines again and again.
In conclusion I think the competion was marvellous in every way with great choreography

Hi, Paul.
I’m so pleased that you were able to access the competition through a French television broadcast!
I believe that you can eventually order the DVDs of the 2008 Finals (and, probably, also the 2008 Semifinals) via the Prix de Lausanne website: http://www.prixdelausanne.org/e/multimedia/order.php. (It looks as though they’re not available online just yet, though.)
Also, it might be worth emailing the Prix de Lausanne (http://www.prixdelausanne.org/e/util/contact_utility.php) to ask whether the DVD will also include the performances you liked. (My fear is that the DVD may only provide the variations of the competitors.)
I hope this helps!
