Musical Chairs

Everyone’s trying to score a good seat. This theater is incredible. On second and 11th. We’ve never come here because we thought it was
really tiny. Guess we were wrong. Looks like this movie theater used to be a more traditional theater, or has at least been around for a while.

There’s a cool deco style theater up on 110 and broadway I think where it looked like they had split the original theater into two - correct me if I’m wrong, its been a while since I was up there and I believe a number of dancers have migrated there!

Anyhow, cool discovery in our hood… Looking forward to the film.

The requisite ceiling shot.

That’s one of my FAVORITE theaters! Discovered it during studio company (when we lived on 13th and A) and was STUNNED to see the size of it when I went in. Not always the greatest movies playing there, but when a good one hits, it’s a great place to see it. Jealous that you are seeing “Be Kind…”, it’s not in Montana yet. But I’ll be back in NY in a week!

It started out as a Yiddish-language theater in the earlier part of the century. 20s? 30s? Something like that.

That theater is great! the problem is there are multiple theaters there so some of them *are* quite small.

When I was a kid it was an actual theater–I took music lessons at 3rd street music school and we did our annual performance there. which, what little I can remember of it, was pretty incredible (performing there, not our performance!)
