On my way to work… London Edition

My walk to work in London was 5 minutes. But wasn’t shy of great London landmarks. Well, great in my opinion….

The Coliseum, where ABT will perform in March for 2 weeks. Also home of the English National Opera.

The Opera House from the ‘front’ entrance. Heading down Floral Street, to your right, you will see the stage door, and the new addition connecting the Royal Ballet School to the Opera House.

The outside and inside view.

The architiect is Wilkinson Eyre (correct me if I’m wrong)… a stunning addition.

I thought that was the English National Opera. And Trafalgar Sq. and St. Martin in the Fields in background! London is one of my favorite cities in the world. I love the opera house’s twisted staircase-looking bridge! Great picture of the inside.

must the ballet dancers not be exposed to us peons outdoors, and need a separate addition to prevent exposure to the outside world?

I am curious… what do you think of the blanked out windows? Do you think that the building was originally designed with windows, the function changed at then “filled them in” or was it a design consideration for the style of the facade to have that sort of “articulation.” If so what does that say about style and function?

    Interesting photos nevertheless, Thanks David.

Twisting Bridge between Royal Ballet School & Royal Opera House
by Wilkinson Eyre Architects is called the “Bridge of Aspiration” !
Which evokes the fluidity and grace of dance… I’m looking their website ;)
I had a chance to walk across it when I took backstage tour there.
    It was sooooo thrilling !!!
