yeah, i love how the animals look like the animals.
the frogs were really neat, and i like the swan tutus.
the water projection was kind of cool in this setting too.
as far as the lead couple goes…. it seems impossible! amazing ability, and beautiful ballet technique as well.
b) Al the “tricks” in the pas de deux really detract from the emotional resonance of the ballet for me. I love modern interpretations of classical works, but every interpretation of Swan Lake I’ve ever seen has always kept the passion. Even with Tchaikovsky’s amazing score this just feels hollow.

Her poor knees…
I like the frog chorus though!

Two things spring to mind immediately
a) What kind of insane training did she get? OMG.

nytimes did an article about this swan lake last year, http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/02/arts/dance/02swan.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
according to the article, this couple didn’t even pick up ballet until 2001, they were both trained from childhood in Chinese acrobatics.
I love how the two art forms are integrated in such an interesting way.

Love the leapin’ frogs!
That’s some kind of wild hyper-extended swan…
Acrobatics, with a touch of ballet.
