“Take 4″ Featuring Rasta Thomas & Bad Boys of Dance
Hello everyone,
I’ve entered into Ballet Nouveau Colorado’s “Dancemakers 2.0″ The 21st Century Choreography Competition.
I wanted to share with you this experience and ask that you VOTE FOR ME!
MY ENTRY
Title: Take 4
Choreography by Bennyroyce Royon
Performed by Bad Boys of Dance, Featuring Rasta Thomas
Premiered at Jacob’s Pillow, July 2007
“Take 4″ was inspired from a commissioned solo work (called “Double Take”) I had done for a graduating dancer from Juilliard, Daniel Mayo (2007 Alumnus). I wanted to investigate explosive physicality by creating movement that required versatility, agility, and technique. But more importantly, a dancer’s personality and his/her own unique way of movement greatly inspires me to seek and define nuances they inherently contribute to the process of creating. It was an exhilarating experience to create “Take 4″ with the versatile and athletic dancers of Bad Boys of Dance.
For BNC, I would like to create a similar piece, but longer, with additional sections orchestrated in a series of a) solo, b) duet, and c) group work that will feature six (6) of BNC’s amazing dancers. Please visit this additional work sample to get a sense of what I am planning for the duet sections: “Me In Your Fall” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAN9UadHZF4 (Please skip video to about 1:25 to pass through the film part.)
I feel that I am a perfect candidate for this competition.
PLEASE VOTE FOR ME by giving me 5 STAR RATING! (* * * * *)

“..Royon’s world premiere quartet “Take 4″ was dynamite. It featured edgier music (by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Herbert), and a provocative setup, beginning and ending in stark squares of light. The four dancers came alive as if someone had just wound them up, and they exploded into movement that pushed at the edges — jazzy, hip-hop-flavored isolations, corkscrew turns, capoeira-influenced floorwork, and an unapologetic in-your-face bravado.” - Karen Campbell, The Boston Globe, July 31, 2007
