I had such a great time with Corsaire this season. This is a ballet I have done quite often, so know it well…
Not to say that it is any easier. The variations are HEAVY and huge. And take a toll on the body. But given the story and how much liberty you can have with it, my partners (Paloma Herrera and Gillian Murphy) and I had a lot of fun.
On to the premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s ballet “On the Dnieper” (pronounced N-eiper). Its a narrative work, a love four some, or lack there of. The rehearsal process has been really great with him. He is pushing the dancers to their unknown limits, and its great to be apart of it. I play ‘the fiance’, who is rejected and left for another man by his bride to be… Always the good guy, I think its the blonde hair. What do you think?

So, its a story about two not so good guys run off with each other, leaving behind two “good guys” heart-broken?? hmmm…
(”good guy” plays vulnerable and noble then :))

Outstanding photo!!
So excited to see you on tour in LA.
Blonde hair definitely suits “good guy” roles, and you dance them so wonderfully!!
cheers

I think blondes playing good guy / good girl roles and dark-haired people playing the opposite is one of the stereotypes we desperately need to get rid of in ballet (and elsewhere.) ABT is pretty good at that though — wasn’t Ethan cast as Iago in Othello? And Michele gets some darker roles. I don’t think you played the good guy in Dnieper, and I think you did an excellent job. I’m never going to forget your performance in that.

it may/not has much to do with his groom role in Niepher. I’ve got your humor and you made me smile
-David was just joking and trying to be funny

Hi David,
This is so random, but I wanted to tell you about it. I called Wells Fargo banking tonight and somehow became involved in a conversation with a banker that attended the same art school as you did in Arizona. As I read through your web page, it appears he was a little foggy on the details. First he told me you were accepted in France, then it turned to Russia and I mentioned the Vaganova school. He said, that’s it! I asked if you were dancing in a company. He said no, that you were teaching in New York City. I go to your Web site and you are a principal dancer for ABT!!!! I am a high school dance teacher and used to follow ABT with complete devotion during the 1970’s and 80’s. Now that I know you are a dancer with ABT, I will make sure to attend the Costa Mesa performance in November. I am sorry, I did not get his name, but he was obviously very proud of you. And, even if the facts were a little hazy, you have achieved a remarkable accomplishment, David. The best to you! A new fan!!

Oh I know David was goofing about his hair, QQ. But “many a truth is said in jest.”
