Listening in Church

Hello, Wingers!  Long time, no post!   I have been very busy jump starting my photography career with odd jobs here and there, including shoots for the NY Times, as well as upcoming issues of Dance Spirit and Movmnt Magazine!  In addition, prints of my photographs are now for sale through my website!

I have spent more time in church over the past week than I have in my entire life.  There was a period when I went to Sunday school–I was a just-out-of-diapers Los Angeles newbie–but those experiences are more memorable for my sister’s awkward dates to church socials with wannabe 90210 cast members than for any religious experiences or architectural impressions.  My family’s church tenure was fleeting, to say the least.  So it was with a bag full of camera equipment and an even heavier bag of untold confessions that I made my way back to God’s house several times over the past two weeks to photograph performances in the inaugural year of Tap City’s Sound Check series.

First on the roster was Katherine Kramer’s fantastic tap/modern fusion, Stop Look Listen.  Some blog readers may recognize these performers from the series of shots I did over the summer when the piece was performed in Montana.  It was a pleasure to witness the one-of-a-kind evening making its New York debut in the Judson Memorial Church on the south end of Washington Square Park, and I’m pleased to bring you a few photos from rehearsal.
