I just got back from an incredible weekend in Vail, where I was performing at the Vail International Dance Festival for the third year in a row! All I can say is “what an honor to be a part of this festival”.
This year Seth Orza and I danced the balcony Pas De Deux from Romeo et Juliette, choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot, and Diamonds Pas De Deux. Dancing with Seth is always a pleasure. We have known each other since 1996 and have had ballets choreographed on us together, which makes our partnering very comfortable and our acting effortless. I also got to dance Apollo, but this time with a first time partner: David Hallberg. You would think that we would need more than two days to get ready for a performance like this, but that was not the case. After our first rehearsal together I felt like I knew him for a lifetime. His partnering is impeccable and his presence on stage makes you feel calm and immediately connected.
The two International Evenings of Dance also included: Paulo Da Silva and Tiba Vieira from DanceBrazil, which it was lovely to get to meet dancers from my country; Simon Ball from Houston Ballet, who danced with Sofiane Sylve from San Francisco Ballet; Fang-yi Sheu from LAFA Dance Taiwan; Ashley Bouder, Robert Fairchild, Tiler Peck and Daniel Ulbricht from NYCB; Misa Kuranaga from Boston Ballet; Robert Kleinendorst and Michael Trusnovec from Paul Taylor Dance Company; Matthew Rushing and Linda Celeste Sims from Alvin Ailey; and Natalia Hills and Gabriel Misse from Buenos Aires (Tango).
Every performer in the list above where breathtaking. During our dress rehearsal I felt inspired to watch them dance and also honored to be able to share the stage with artist from all over the world. This diverse group of dancers makes the Vail Dance Festival unique and very special. The performance included ballet, modern dance, tango and capoeira. Where else can you find a show like this? If you still haven’t had a chance to go to Vail for this event, I would highly recommend you go next year!!
Here are some pictures from the rehearsals. Enjoy it!!
