Doug and his company are producing a design conference at Avery Fisher Hall on Sept. 9th and 10th. (right across the plaza from my “office”!)
The conference is called Semi-Permanent, and was started a few years ago in Australia by a company called Desing is Kinky.
There will be 12 speakers from all different disciplines including Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, architects. (This poster is of one of their creations)
This is Doug, quoted about the idea behind the conference…
“Doug Jaeger told PSFK that he thinks of Semi-Permanent in terms of the survival of the fittest. ‘Design mediums are converging,’ he says. ‘And this is creating a “super-species” of artists who have the ability to pull from a knowledge base well beyond their specific disciplines, making them stronger designers. We’ve plucked the rising super-species from the design world - And they will teach the rest of us how to survive.’”
Can you tell I’m a proud girlfriend? He’s speaking at the Apple Store about it all on Sept. 5th.
You can get tickets to the conference at the Lincoln Center box office.

Found a great new place to sweat like crazy. This is a very small gym two blocks from my house, run by Shawna Cordell, the coolest buffest lady I’ve ever met.
I had my first training session there yesterday with Kenny, and I’m definitely feeling it today. I don’t think I’ve ever done so many squats and push-ups in my life, but it was really fun.
He had me do this thing on the big bouncy ball, where you balance yourself on your hand and knees, on the ball, nothing touching the ground. Pretty crazy huh? I managed to do it a few times once I got the hang of it, but Kenny can actually go so far as to stand upright on the ball. Craziness!

Found a great pilates and gyrotonics studio in my neighborhood called Soho Sanctuary. I love how after only an hour of pilates I feel like I could crush any obstacle that comes my way. Pilates just may give you super powers.

Maybe if you get pedicures all the time they can be a relaxing experience, but for me it was more of a crazy journey. But, now I have the nicest looking feet I can ask for after what I normally put them through, thanks to Bea.
Oscar Bond Salon is at 42 Wooster St. between Broome and Grand, right in the middle of lots of dangerously tempting stores and galleries. It’s owned by a husband and wife team (Oscar is the expert trimmer and Wendy is the expert colorist). They offer basically any treatment you could ask for and the people that work there are incredibly nice. I had a great time. . . uncontrolable tickle-fest and all.
Thanks Krystian!

Bea did an awesome job. Now I have to sit and dry. Don’t they kinda look like reddish orange chiclets?

The hard work is over. Now it’s time for some color. Looking better already?
