While waiting for my drum teacher to let me in the building, I noticed that two floors of this gorgeous huge-windowed building at 38th and 8th Avenue will be the new home of New Dance Group. I believe their previous studios were right off Times Square. It looks like a beautiful space - maybe even nicer than Steps!?

Back at Cordell on a beautiful day. Kind of wish I could go to the beach instead.

Stella McCartney’s clothes for Adidas are so fantastic. They’re even great as dancewear. She uses lots of mesh and breathable fabrics, and the seams flow along the lines of the body. It’s so well designed. I picked some stuff up in a little splurge the other day and I love it!

Luckily at the company, and I think its the same at City Ballet, there are professional make up artists who can do our make up for big roles or character parts. In Swan Lake, there is the ‘Lakeside Von Rothbart’ who is green ALL OVER. He probably sits in the make up chair for no less than 40 minutes, going through the process that calls for green make up all over his body. It is quite a sight, seeing the finished product. There is so much detail put into it that sitting in the audience, you dont see half of the stuff that is on his face.
Also, when you are doing a principal role, you can do your own make up job but it is always nice to have that professional touch to make you look you very best. After all, you are carrying a 3 or 4 act ballet. And looking the part is always just as important as dancing well.

As our final weeks at the Met keep chugging along, the wigs and makeup department are preparing for the next couple of runs of shows. The next being Corsaire and Syliva, but the last week is Romeo and Juliet. These are the wigs for the harlots, otherwise known as the ‘whores’. In a lot of these long story ballets, there are many period pieces that us dancers have to get into character for. Nothing really compares to Manon though, in wigs alone, there were about 3 different changes for each dancer. That inevitably made the wigs and make up people crazy, having to constantly change 20 to 30 dancers wigs.
