Here I am about to warm up for my dance class. It’s a contemporary class so we don’t wear ballet shoes. You are supposed to go barefoot, but most people in the classes I go to wear socks. I don’t know exactly why this is, although I suspect it is because the marley floor can get a bit sticky, making it difficult to turn in just bare feet.
The ‘proper’ contemporary dancers (the ones who study here full time or are in the company) have hardier feet than we do!
Class was really good fun tonight. Our teacher has a lot of energy and she likes to teach adults, which is really great. She decided we were bad at jumping so she gave us a lot of jumps and travelling jumps to do - some of them in slow motion. We also had to do a crazy sequence where we waved our arms around like maniacs. Everyone fell on the floor laughing.
Ballet Shoes?

i’m always amazed at how contemporary dancers don’t even flinch when it comes to skin burns on marley floors.
