Thanks for this great post, Cathy. I've loved ballet since childhood, but began seeing everything I could when I moved to New York. Alvin Ailey is who really made me fall in love with dance. Definitely go see as much as you can of all types of dance -- you can never get too much exposure!

Thanks for the great review of the Parsons Company. I have enjoyed his choreography and his dancing at Jacob's Pillow in the past, though I have not seen his Company lately. Sounds like they have some new rep! CAUGHT is a brilliant & unique piece; I have seen it danced by Parsons himself and later by both male & female soloists.

"Caught" is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I saw it performed last year by a dancer from Alvin Ailey, and it was incredible. I've never seen an audience get so riled up by a dance performance... they were practically leaping out of their seats while he danced!!

Hi Cathy -- I am not a dancer but I've been a dance fan for a long time. The dancers who caught my interest first were Twyla Tharp and the Martha Graham company (this was when Ms. Graham was no longer dancing). After a long time following contemporary dance and really liking it, I finally got interested in classical ballet in the last year or so. There is no down side to experiencing all different types of dance.
