Happy Holidays

Elevator #6… take me to the stage!

I thought I’d try to do a little montage of my backstage experience during NYCB’s Nutcracker. If you didn’t catch it already, I’m just a “party parent” this year, do to my disabled status. The injury doesn’t seem to effect this role too much, although I feel kind of bad that I can’t kneel down to help the girls up when they fall at one point, or kneel down to fix the girls skirts before the dolls dance. I feel like the one parent that doesn’t help out, but hopefully I’m the only one that notices!
Passing through the hallway, on my way to the Greenroom (where the ladies get into their costumes) I pass the Arabian and Lead Spanish costumes, followed by a row of Sugarplum Fairy tutus. The principal costumes in the Nutcracker have multiple copies, to fit all sorts of body types.

The ladies in the Greenroom pose for a photos in front of the “Christmas Tree”. They work so hard to help keep the costumes ready for action, and to strap us into them when it’s time for the show.

The flowers costumes, blowing in the breeze of the fan the cools us off between costume changes.

The rotund mouse costumes. (These are the ones the company men wear, there are miniature versions for the kids.)

Daniel, pre-Tea costume, and Gwyneth moments before going onstage as Frau Stahlbaum.

Austin as the Soldier Doll.

Up close, a Marzipan costume… with it’s satin sweets. This has always been one of my favorites. Karinska costumes have such amazing detail!

Me and my “husband” Ralph.

With our coats and hats… ready for the party.

Stephanie wamps up for the snow scene, with Daniel in the background.

Party scene from the wings. (My couple shows up late to the party with the grandparents.)

Ralph, “full of Christmas Spirit” as he said, moments before going to the “partay“.

Happy holidays everybody!

Thank you so much for the backstage pics! You guys seem to be having a great time, even though it probably seems like the millionth run of the show.

Those flower costumes are really old, right? I’ve seen them in so many NYCB photos, they’re like the trademark NYCB flowers….

Thank you for the great photos, and thanks to all the dancers for persevering thru the long NUTCRACKER season. It must get to seem like a grind after a few weeks but the audiences are huge this season and they are loving it.

Have my seventh CRACKER on Thursday, then 3 BEAUTIES right away. You guys are always in my opera glasses so dance well, ’cause I’ll be watching.

To all the dancers & the NYCB family and to Wingers everywhere, a joyous holiday.

Philip

Thank you for these fabulous pictures — I love the ones of you and Ralph (so sweet!), the ones of Daniel (remind me in a way of those Sharkey pics of the Diamond Project!..), and the one of you about to go onstage (that one actually makes me a little nervous, since that’s what I would be feeling big time…)

I second Lili — thank you for this wonderful website. You all have enriched my life tremendously and provided hours and hours of entertainment for me this past year. You’re a genius, Kristin!!!

Thank you so much again, and happy Christmas and holidays, everyone!

p.s.: Philip, are we going to have any snow at all here this winter???
