A funny sign in the Men’s dressing room.. giving the dancers some much needed words of advice. Thank God its in English…. well, some of it. But I thought the phrasing and wording were worth posting about. There is a lot of this type of English in Japan, most of it making sense, but sometimes small words just making it a little more interesting.
I guess I’m not allowed to wash my hair in the dressing room…. I’ll save that for my hotel room, I guess.
david, you should go check out www.engrish.com but i always think, their english is definitely better than my japanese! (I don’t speak Japanese)
Oh my god! I miss the insanity. I just cleaned out my closets and found some Japanese shopping bags from OI City or however you said it. Needless to say, I miss it. Eat some good eel for me and raid all of those crazy vending machines!

After MV now Tokyo! Poles apart (almost)! The signs from the men’s room are very funny, and I hear that Tokyo is full of similar signs, and not just in people’s private rooms. Look for big commercial signs and indicateurs in subway stations, streets etc….
I look forward to reading your impressions and of your experience of performing in “Le pays du soleil levant” as the French used (or still do?) say.

David, if you read what it says carefully, it says you may not allow to eat and drink here, not that you can’t eat and drink here yourself.
Also, you can’t leave: Don’t leave here. Ever. You’re stuck there for the rest of your life in a Japanese dressing room where you can’t wash your hair. Pfui. I can’t see how ABT could have scheduled you for three performances of The Green Table if you’re stuck for life in a Japanese dressing room.

I spent 6 months performing in Japan- our favorite thing was to to the 100 Yen stores and get the stationary with all the incorrect english sayings on it. So funny. Ex: Beautiful floral stationary that says “Lettuce makes me cry”. OK……

How nice of them to translate… Imagine how much would be lost in translation if you were deciphering the characters! Best of luck on your performances!
I’ve also gotta comment in favor of engrish.com; it’s totally hilarious. And I’m so jealous that David is in Tokyo, or Japan in general! I’ve been wanting to go there for so long! I hope I end up with a job someday that involves that kind of travel. As a dancer you are so lucky in that way… and in many other ways as well.
