Last month Atlanta Ballet performed at a brand new theater in Atlanta called the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. It was the opening weekend for the facility, and since the company is planning on performing a mixed rep show there that includes Balanchine’s Serenade and Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room in March, I was anxious to explore.

a shot of the beautiful exterior

a view from the stage

i think these glass chandeliers are so cool

a view of the building shortly before the show. i’m posed with fellow ballet dancer and DJ, Anne Tyler Harshbarger.

our stage manager, Amy, greeting Anne at the stage door, notifying her that she will have to replace another dancer at the last minute in a difficult section of the ballet.

Anne’s response to the news.

she obviously regrets eating all of that massaman curry for dinner.

a nighttime view of the back of the theater.

That space looks amazing. Very jealous. Thanks for all of the pictures! I always love seeing a shot from the stage looking out over the empty audience, something so soothing and haunting about it at the same time.

Makes one realize how awful Lincoln Center architecture is, don’t it?

Spectacular venue and funny sequence about subbing a tough part in the ballet.
