In a recent review of one of ABT’s London Tour Programs, the Observer’s Luke Jennings calls out David Hallberg for his “soaring line [that] takes absolute possession of the stage space.” in Twyla Tharps In The Upper Room. Read the full article here.

And for Miami City Ballet’s Alex Wong reporting on his experience in the same ballet click here.

Thank you for this article!! :) :)

There’s an enormous photo, by the way, of our wonderful David on the cover of Pointe Magazine hanging in the front window of the BN Lincoln Square. It was too cold for me to stand there and check it out, but didn’t know if they were advertising the ballet or the magazine or if some ABT-related event is going to be going on there??

After reading the article I have to say I am really dismayed at how insubstantial it is. It’s like 5 words long — just like many of the reviews in the U.S. Do newspaper editors just refuse to give very much space to dance, or is it that the critics can’t come up with enough to say?

Apropos of that, has anyone read this:

I think Doug comes up with some interesting criticisms and suggestions. I’m not a professional dance critic so I’m not sure what to think, but it’s definitely food for thought…

Hi Tonya, don’t worry too much about this article - it’s from a Sunday newspaper, which tend to summarise the week’s events when they don’t do full features of things. This week there was a lot in the Observer about opera and pop/rock music - other times they do longer reviews of dance/visual arts/films/books.
