Beyond performance

Thought you might find this interesting… because I did.

It’s a PDF supplement to Dance Magazine, which can be found on their website, that is a collection of articles on dancers and what they’ve done as their second careers.
The clip above is from an article about Damian Woetzel by Emily Coates. (Click Emily’s name for a really interesting interview of her by Finis Jung)

Wow, this is really interesting; thanks for pointing it out. I always thought that would be the worst part of being a professional dancer — knowing that you’re embarking on the beginning of the end of what you live for as early as your early thirties. How awful. But what Damian did was Brilliant! It’s so great that Harvard has such a program because I’d think it would be very hard to go through the whole process of getting a Bachelor’s when you’re older — it takes so long. But if you’ve shown leadership abilities and excellence in your field, you should be able to bypass that. I love his description of the similarities between dance and policy analysis! Ha ha, Princetown Review does suck though– he’s right about that :) He has a whole other world ahead of him, how awesome!

Hey thanks for pointing out the article. You might want to check out this site too: SCOPE. Its only just started this year and is an extension of a program that is already being conducted with athletes. Just about all the participants this year seem to want to remain in the dance profession but it also extends to dancers that want to transition into other careers. But the idea is terrific, that you have this support so that you can develop your career while you’re still working in the profession.
