Thank you guys all for the comments! Jaydee, I don't have any special ritual I do before shows, but just to make sure that I get a good nights rest and that my body is warm and ready to go before I get on stage. And then before I go on stage, I take some deep breaths just to calm my nerves down and really settle into my body... then I'm ready to go!

Loved you and the 2 other stomper men in the Tharp piece. Your Agon photos are impressive. They make me sorry I missed you in that in West Palm, but I'm glad Villella is giving you so many incredible opportunities. Program II is a winner and I hope you all get to tour it. Looking forward to seeing you in Programs III and IV.

Hi Alex,

Everytime I thing about dancers struggling in the wings to get through "in the upper room," I laugh out loud.
I picture dancers laid out on cots, IV's hanging from poles going into their arms, people holding tiny cups of gatorade or red bull in their hands like at the side of marathons, and dancers collapsing into each others arms or onto the floor then being pickuped and literally thrown back onto the stage where everything looks beautiful and composed. What isn't hilarious about those images!! Man, I want to see behind the scenes footage of that in the worst way. ;-) Sometimes people in medicine have perverted senses of humor, and I'm no exception. It is kinda like what doesn't kill us or hurt us too badly only makes us [doctors and nurses, etc.] poke fun at it. Best wishes from Chicago to you and all your fellow Miami City Ballet dancers with your programs.

I posted this before but it is a small clip from the 80's of Tharp dancers in "ITUR" that I thought was really neat if not slightly distorted (sorta a floaty or etheral feel to it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POTt4nPq1Iw

Great post Alex. I learned stuff! and I am a true Bun-head (almost Japanese ;)...) and I sponge up things like what J.R. said about ''Faun''...... That's what I think the WINGER is about.

Good luck-

i love twyla tharp and it always amazes me how much energy she requires her dancers to have....i mean, no wonder "movin' out" on broadway had a continual rotating cast (each cast member could only perform 5 shows, i think?, a week) so no one gets injured!

but as an audience member, it is especially thrilling to watch "in the upper room" and other twyla pieces on stage.
