Well I have been busy as usual….This weekend we had the honor of having Finis Jhung with us. He gave a 2 day 8 hour workshop for my students. It was a very special weekend! Finis is an unorthodox teacher as many of you may know. He has a unique way of getting his point across. The first day it took a bit for the kids to open up to it, but by the second day it was like everything he said started to sink in. Some of the students were even executing steps that they had trouble with before. It was an amazing experience that i am sure they will remember for a long long time.

In the late 70’s Finis had a wonderful huge studio on the upper west side. He taught barre from a platform he built way up above us. He was using a microphone because his vocal chords were hurting .It was amazing. He was one of the first ballet teachers to offer a “ballet class for modern dancers with a floor barre”. He has always been so innovative. Recently I was taking an Oriental Belly Dance and heard that he was teaching upstairs. I walked in to class and he said ” Barbara is that you?”. I had tears in my eyes. How could he remember my name after so many years? I will always be grateful for Finis teaching. I loved his beautiful , emotional adagios . I am now teaching the first ever Belly Dance Foundation class for Modern and Ballet dancers in RI. Circles of live.

Veronica,

What is the red rope-type thing he is using? I also see some on the black board on the back of the picture. They look very interesting. Thanks. Great pictures.
