Performance Log- Don Quixote

Its always interesting how long the wait for a performance seems to be, and then once you get into the zone, seems to go by so quickly.

That is how Friday nights debut of Don Quixote went for me. One act after another, and then its over.

Don Q is the type of ballet that if YOU, as a dancer, are not having fun, then the audience doesn’t join you for the ride. Well, hopefully the audience joined me for the ride because I really enjoyed myself. Act I is the most tiring. Which from the audience doesn’t seem that way, but the pricipals never stop… one thing after another, until the bitter end. By the time third act rolls around, and the grand pas de deux, you have to really muster up the energy to finish the ballet.

My dressing room mate and I sharing a rare moment of being ‘on’ the same night.

Marcelo as Espada

David as Basilio

Friday night was great fun though. I wish I had another to test the water even more. But our tour to Korea holds another one to write home about.

I love the picture of Misha on your mirror. A source of inspiration perhaps?

Thanks for this post, David and Matt (Matt — the bottom picture! You’re too funny!) David, I’m so sorry I had to miss this. It breaks my heart that I can’t go to practically every performance. If I could I definitely would. Anyway, I’m sure you were superb. I did happen to catch Marcelo earlier in the week and he was the best big famous crazy cape-swirling matador I’ve ever seen :) Veronika was breathtaking too, as were Angel and Palmona, but duh…

I’m glad it was fun for you. Don Q. is my favorite ballet, it would have been awesome to see it! I’m sure you did wonderfully! Such an awesome ballet.

Hmm. . .was wondering. Are you touring for “Etudes” and “Rabbits + Rouge” in August? I’m planning on seeing the performance in Orange County, it would be awesome if you were with the group touring!

Best of Luck, Much Much Success, and Great Fun to tomorrow’s closing la bayadere, David !

I imagine David perfect as Solor, the royal worrior, which is a Prince(ly) worrior :)
