CANDICE THOMPSON
Ad Hoc Ballet
Brooklyn, NY USA
BIO | POSTS

Recently, I was being teased about carrying such a gigantic backpack. Until then I honestly had never really noticed that my bag was so outsized compared to the non-dance world. Not to mention, it is often only one of two pieces of “luggage” that I carry on any given weekday. And so I thought about all of you and all of your dance bags and figured this was the place for understanding.

{Photo of my bags at the end of my day today. In backpack (designated bag for ad hoc Ballet and teaching): Couple pairs of pointe shoes, flat shoes, shawl, wool socks, various other dance clothes/legwarmers, postcards, granola, orange, nalgene bottle, ballet music cd’s, ipod, lipgloss, calendars. In tote bag (designated for LOLAstretch and life): powerbook, files and to do lists, novel, Harper’s magazine, journal/sketchbook, treo, a/c adapters, more calendars, shipments of leotards etc. if I haven’t been by the P.O. already, pens, digital camera, glasses, sunglasses, more lipgloss, wallet, cloth bag for any random food/fabric/misc. shopping because I hate acquiring more plastic bags. }

OK, I admit it is a little ridiculous……but when everything you do is freelance, on-the-go……..and it is so much worse when I am in the middle of costuming. I’m not the only one, am i??
