Well, since we’re all in such a gung-ho dog mood at the moment……

I have two amazing dogs at home w/ my family: Sasha and Tasha (there names are so similar that we only have to call one of their names to make them both come, ha)

I usually try and keep posts to a dance related subject, but I couldn’t resist after Justin’s post about the Unofficial member of City Ballet. So here are a few more of the extended family of David Hallberg….

The Crucial [Unofficial] Member of New York City Ballet

JUSTIN PECK
New York City Ballet
New York, NY USA
BIO | POSTS

Emma Redpath, New York City Ballet’s newest apprentice, will make her debut this season, dancing in ballets such as Carnival of the Animals and the Firebird, as well as understudying the principal “yappy dog” role in the second act of Double Feature!

Ok, fine. Maybe she’s not the newest dancer with City Ballet, but she is sort of the unofficial mascot of the company. She’s a companion of one of the ballet masters here, and can be found socializing with dancers in the dancers lounge, strolling the hallways of the New York State Theatre, lunching at Fiorello’s with her colleague Biscuit (a dog friend who belongs to one of the pianists), and even overseeing important rehearsals (pictured above, giving principal dancer Andrew Veyette some pointers on his Jerome Robbins repertoire).

Fava Bean Magic Volcano - Savannah Teaching Trip III

sloan_thumb USA_flag Posted by Kristin Sloan

Here are a few photos from my time in Savannah so far. After two days of teaching, it’s been really fun, but the hip has definitely not been excited about it. Perhaps it doesn’t like the heat, or the humidity, or the bugs? Silly hip. I think there are plenty of great things that overshadow all that.

The beachy ride from Tybee Island to The Studio.

I’m staying in a nice house on Tybee Island which is about a 20/30 minute drive to The Studio. Yesterday Erica came in so I picked her up at the airport after classes. She’ll be here until Thursday… it’s been so nice to have her company!
A big thanks to MMM the M’s and the P’s for lending me their beautiful space by the beach. :)

The path form our street to Tybee Beach

Melting on the sand. It looks funny because my phone is in a Ziploc baggie.

On the right… Blendtec, in action

On a side note, I’ve been getting my iced skim lattes in the morning from Krispy Kreme (it’s right by the studio). The first day I ordered one, they asked me if I wanted whipped cream. The second day they asked if I wanted flavor syrup… or at least some sugar. It’s all about sweets there I guess! But I was oddly excited to see that they had the made-famous-by-Youtube Blendtec Blenders. Check out their Will it Blend? series if you haven’t already.

Tonight Erica and I had dinner at the infamous Crab Shack, amidst the parrots, crocodiles, and locust-style bugs that sit in the trees and are so loud you feel like you are screaming to be heard over them. It’s a unique experience. Unfortunately Erica got eaten alive by mosquitos (we think) during the last half hour we were there. So we were happy after we stopped for some calamine lotion and then headed back to the house to watch The Colbert Report. (Click that link to see where this posts title comes form. Hint: it has something to do with Samoa.)

This parrot is insane. The first time I tried to take it’s picture, it made this bloodcurdling screech, which in tern caused me to make a bloodcurdling screech. How embarrassing. But I’m sure I wasn’t the first.

Another crazy parrot.

Roasted crocodile anyone? It was 102 degrees when I took this photo. Looks like he was too hot and tired to untangle his foot from his tail.

Curious Kitty

I’m visiting my mom tonight in Williamsburg, and parked my bike inside their place (they do technically live in a garage) and Buddha the cat has been having a fun time inspecting it for me. So cute!

Joca, and more

cathy40px brazil-small Posted by Cathy Godeghesi

This is Joca, and he says hi to the winger. He’s a baby! We got him a couple of weeks ago and he has grown so much since then already!

I haven’t posted in ages, because since school started I needed to organize life and such, but now apparently everything is settled down and in its tracks.

As to ballet, I’m taking more classes now, which has been quite tiring, but pretty amazing. We have started repertory classes. It’s once a week and we’ve been learning some variations from different ballets.

The first one we learned was from Flower Festival in Genzano. The footwork is rather fast, typical of Bournonville ballets.
This week we have started learning Kitri’s variation from 3rd act. I’ve been asking my teacher to do so for years and if it gets good, I might dance it in competitions. It’s my favorite variation ever (Don Q is my favorite ballet), so I am very very happy. Me and a friend are planning to make a video out of it, so I might post it here!

School is driving me insane. This is the year that we take the exam to enter universities, but I’m not really in a rush for this, so I won’t stress myself because of that. I can take another year, because I don’t want to enter it right now. So i’m dedicating this year to ballet, I guess.

I’m also involved in a project that is a United Nations simulation. I’m pretty excited about that because I really like these things. And apparently I’m going to represent US, so it’s going to be a difficult thing. Right now I’m preparing, mostly reading things.

Well wingers, for now this is it. Now that I’m back into tracks, I’ll be here more often again!
