A February day from beginning to end:

cereal with soymilk (i like vanilla the best
), and yogi tea with honey for breakfast. Good Morning!

Toilet sitting on a street corner outside of my building. Hope they have a replacement!

Running late (as usual), so I have to take my car instead of the train. Atlantans spend so much time in their cars because of the city’s sprawl and a lack of extensive public transportation. I made a New Year’s resolution to take the train more to reduce my carbon footprint, and now I’m getting caught in the act. No good!

After about a 20 minute fight with other commuters, I arrive at Atlanta Ballet! I literally snapped this photo, and ran inside only to sprint up the stairs to the third floor to make it to class; probably not your typical pre-class warmup.

My beautiful barre-mates, Rachel VanBuskirk and Courtney Necessary.

Ballet Mistress, Dale Shields teaching class. Looks like she’s wondering why I’m snapping photos during class. Busted!

Brian Wallenberg decides to take a magic carpet ride during stretches. Good choice!

Hugs are a favorite of mine, especially in the morning (and during class!)

A group of people usually gather around the message board to look at the schedule for the day. 5 hours for me today, so it’s gonna be a long one.

First rehearsal of the day for Ramblin’ Suite. John Welker pictured. No, he’s not posing for the camera, but is actually doing the choreography. Nice muscles!

Get it, guys!

Tara Lee tempts me with her natural foods snack bar. I’m ready for lunch!

Lunchtime at Wolfgang Puck with live entertainment by Anne Tyler.

Hate it when you get green things stuck in your teeth.

We don’t get out enough.

After lunch it’s time to write a thank you note to my sponsors. (several dancers have sponsors who generously donate money to the ballet in the dancer’s name)

Chairs set up for the preview party of excerpts of our upcoming rep show, including In The Upper Room.

Tables of food and drinks for the party that the dancers tend to attack after the showing. Yumm!

Off to see an Atlanta Thrashers game at Philips Arena with some of the dancers from the company. My younger brother is a hockey player, and is playing a charity game with the house team he is on after the pros play.

In the meantime, I take full advantage of the snacks available, and chomp down on some hot wings, fries, and a colossal coke. Love the spicy wings and malt vinegar on the fries!

GOAL!!! My favorite parts of the game are when the Thrashers score. A horn sounds, and a fireball is shot out of the heads of two thrashers suspended above the ice. Talk about some dramatic theatrics!

Mid-game, Thrashers tshirts attached to parachutes fall from above.

Caught one! I think the guy behind me thought he was going to get it. Not so fast, buddy!

Thrashers game is over. They lost
but now it’s time to watch my brother. Hi Cary!

Wow. Posting these photos makes me remember how tired I was when I took this last one right before I went to sleep. Finished the day off with a little reading in bed before passing out. Goodnight!

Atlanta Ballet recently performed in Athens, Georgia, at the campus of the University of Georgia, and offered a mixed repertory performance including Balanchine’s Serenade, and Diane Coburn-Bruning’s Ramblin’ Suite.

After a very short post-Nutcracker lull, the Atlanta Ballet is back with an exciting and beautiful production of Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by Milwaukee Ballet director, Michael Pink. The show opens tonight at the Fox Theater, February 7th, and runs through February 16th, with 9 performances. Come check it out!

Today was Super Tuesday, and about half the states in the country held primary elections. I think voting is so much fun, and the way the news covers the returns is always so dramatic and entertaining. I hope everyone voted!

I was just sitting on my couch watching television, and I heard some commotion coming from the street. I thought that maybe it was the culmination of a soccer game that was being watched at one of the neighborhood sports bars (which is occasionally the case). However, I walked outside to find a migrating group of Santas ho-ho-ho-ing through the neighborhood. I waved, snapped photos, was given presents, and even asked to join the journey. Unsure of where these look-alikes might take me, I politely declined the offer. How strange and fun!

Stopping to mug for the shot.

See you next year!

Fellow blogger Arjan, who has a music blog called arjanwrites.com (go check it out!), told me that I should include more photos of myself in my posts. I thought about it, and decided that he was right.

My answer to this suggestion: find the photo in which I wear a costume that makes me almost completely unidentifiable! Here I am leaping through the battle scene as a rat.
Enough joking around. Below are some photographs from Atlanta Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker (choreography by John McFall).

We’re only halfway through our Nutcracker run, so there’s at least one more Nuts post to come!
