The weather has been so great and biking around Brooklyn is meditative for me when I am stressed. Right now I am having my morning coffee and thinking about my to do list for the day on the pier in Red Hook.

BAM 2008 Spring Season

Has now started.

Written in 1960, Samuel Beckett’s “Happy Days” was just wonderful to open the season.
Fabulous Fiona Shaw displayed a woman burried in the earth in two different times. She does not have much ‘body language’ since she is in the earth, up to the waist and then up to the head… was just incredible to see the changes. It is fully convincing.

I saw Shaw in “Media” a few years ago at the same theater. I can’t forget how she performed, and now I dance Media in MGDC, it was a great to see another production of the same story. Even though it was not dance, it gave me a lot to think about.

This play actually has 2 actors, but almost 95% is Shaw’s monologue.

1 and 1/2 hours!

I just loved it.

… To see Nacho Duato’s Compania National de Danza. I love what I’ve
seen of his choreography but have never seen his company/dancers
before. Exciting!

Dance making itself accessible in Upstate New York and Brooklyn

This weekend I spent a few days with my family in a cottage they like to rent in Red Hook, New York. (The one Doug and I visited at the beginning of the summer.) Red Hook is only 15 minutes away from Rhinebeck, a nice town which also happens to be close to the train station I arrived at.

Over the course of our stay, I saw at least two instances of dance promotion in the town shops. And it’s not like these items were one among many flyers. In both instances, Kaatsbaan Dance Center and Emory Wilson Dance were a featured promotional item among only two or three (at a wine shop and a restaurant).

Also, found this BAM brochure at the Brooklyn Industries store on Bedford Street in Williamsburg. Yes!
