Finding this image yesterday was an “aha!” moment for me. Often patterns can be really dangerous, especially when put on a leotard. But here is an example of how to do it right. Thanks Pucci! You can expect to see the influence of this when my new fall colors for LOLAstretch are announced on Friday. Maybe there will be more than just a fabulous pumpkin or jade……

{Gymnast leotard designed by Pucci for NY Times Magazine shoot. They are a design house famous for prints, as evidenced!, for those who might not be in the fashion know.}
Don’t you wish the American Team was really wearing this in Bejing, instead of the rhinestone dusted usual?

A week ago we did our first LOLAstretch Design Lab photo shoot at the skate park under the Manhattan Bridge. The shoot featured the new leotard that Erica Sabatini has designed as part of the Design Lab project. Our models were dancers Margot Martin of Carolina Ballet, Andrew Scordato of NYCB, Jaime Benjamin from the reality tv series The Search For the Next Pussycat Doll, and Connor Weigand. Kari Sharff, our most excellent photographer, gracefully captured shots and helped us navigate the sometimes dangerous terrain in the middle of a bunch of serious skateboarders. Shane Cisneros, celebrity stylist extraordinaire and fashion specialist for Getty Images, styled and held my hand as usual.
Erica has appropriately named the new design RIBellious, as it features a boat neck top, flattering rib panels that can be solid, mesh or open and a super low back. I am really excited to be able to launch this style as I feel Erica did an excellent job of pushing the design envelope while staying within the LOLAstretch aesthetic. Check out our myspace page, LOLAstretch.com or keep coming back here for new images of the leotard, slideshows of the behind-the-scenes images from our shoot and promotions as the day of the RIBellious launch approaches(September 28th).
We have a goal of raising $2500 for LUNGevity, a not-for-profit cancer research organization, and I am certain that will be a piece of cake with this eye-catching design. Please direct any questions or comments you might have to erica@lolastretch.com. We would love your feedback!

Margot and Andrew

Jaime…..I think she actually knows how to skate

Me trying to fix the helmet on Margot as Andrew and Connor look on…….I was obsessed with getting this sort of break-dancing headstand/headspin shot and needless to say, it was a misguided at best:-) but I thank Margot and Connor for being good sports!

The rebellious dancer/designer, Erica, in all her glory. And yes, we did spray paint those t-shirts in a fit of what could only be described as divine inspiration.

Random guy from skate park….confused about how he mistakenly stumbled upon a bunch of ballerinas but happy nonetheless.

Group shot, sorta like a group hug. Everyone involved was amazing and I think you can surmise from my maniacal laughing that good times were had.

Just thought I would “re post” something I first posted for my trip to Japan in September. In honor of all of our favorite t shirt store! Welcome to NYC!
One of the things I was most looking forward to on arrival to Tokyo, was visiting and buying out the complete “Graniph Design” store here in Japan. This store commissions designers to create a line of t shirts to sell in their store. Granted, there is such a wide array of styles of t’s there, its a feast for the eyes (and the wallet). I discovered this store on my last trip here and fell maddly in love for it. It is the type of innovative Japanese design that attracts me to Tokyo and the people here. When I returned to NYC, I got so many compliments on the t shirts I bought at Graniph, and wore them throughout the whole year.
Well, upon my return, one of my first stops was to Graniph… As I am browsing through the t’s, loving them all, I come across a name that I am VERY familiar with… none other than Kristin’s boyfriend extrodinaire… Doug Jaeger. I was so excited to see his name there, and in a store I love so much, commissioning artists with complete individuality. And, here I thought I was so alone in Tokyo… but ‘family’ is right where you left it!
Bravo Doug!

A blurry pic of Doug’s name under his t shirt.

Doug’s t shirt is the gray one on the first shelf.

Last night I tagged along with Doug to the Art Directors Club’s Student Design Portfolio Review. What I understand it to be, is a place where students can show their work to potential employers and get feedback on their work and presentation. Tables are set up throughout the space, and each person has a space to display their portfolios and other small examples of their work (as well as cards and resumes of course). Below, everyone beginning to pack up.

It was really interesting to watch Doug look for talent. He started out by targeting all the people who had Web or Interactive experience in their descriptions. It was interesting to note that those designers were also the ones who seemed to have the most people coming over to check out their work. It’s kind of amazing that in this day and age, some up and coming designers still completely ignore the web. But I suppose I am biased with my technology fascination, not to mention living with someone like Doug.
I’m so fascinated by good design, and it was interesting to see how these designers chose to present themselves in a small environment like this.

And I just thought I would add in this amazingly beautiful sunset over East Houston. We stopped by ‘Inoteca after the ADC and randomly met up with a few friends.

Hi. My name is Evan. I am a bun-head. No denial.
…I have tried to be less-bunheady and I have millions of other hobbies but still, put a hard2find vintage dance vid infront of me and I become kind of a sucker…
…which is why I, ummmm, shamelessly troll through youTube.com when I get a chance. (am I the only one?..) It would be literally impossible to gather all of the golden gems (legal or not…) that the mega-site has to offer.
I found this random clip of the old Frankfurt Ballet having fun doing some Stephen Galloway choreography for an Issey Miyake show in the early 90’s (?)…. I know a few of the dancers(§$%&ing fantastic still..) and it’s so cool to see them rocking out! I love this time when Frankfurt Ballet wasn’t just on-the-map, it kind-of WAS the map! Because so many artists were so inspired by the Forsythe brand of movement from that period, there has been alot of similar stuff being produced all over the world ever since. Infact, I think we’ve sort of come full circle now in Europe…where old is new is old is new is….yeah so either way, I wish I coulda been there at that moment! I mean, I was like 8 but whatev!…

hmmmm maybe we should have a vintage youTube(or whatever tube your watching) week where everybody posts a rare clip that they’re kinda fond of for whatever reason….!!! (nice sentence-structure, thx)
sound fun?? yes? ok!
:)
