You may remember me talking about Doug’s semi-secret creative members club LVHRD (pronouced LIVE HARD) before. It’s the one where they throw events where architects battle to create models live on stage, fashion designers compete to create the best dress in an hour, and for the past two years, individuals have battled for the title of Dance Champion.
The first year of LVHRD’s DNCHRD (pronounced DANCE HARD) featured the wonderful Mr. David Hallberg as a judge. Last year, both Gia and I had the opportunity to see and comment on the competition from a front-row judge’s seat as well. This year, the format is entirely different….
“Three DJ’s go head to head in a round robin tournament where you provide the vynl. Awards for best dance crew will be up for grabs, so bring your favorite record and be ready to dance your ass off.”
The main event is on Tuesday SEPT. 25TH (also Doug’s bday), but TONIGHT at an East Village bar called B-Side, there wil be a Pre-Party, where you can meet the competing DJ’s. Also, if you bring some vintage vinyl tonight to the official Pre-Party, you will be granted free admission to the main event on the 25th.
I’ll be there tonight, and next Tuesday.
I’ve already got my vinyl - Doug E Fresh - in honor of you know who.
Our friend Mr. Everyplace just posted (on Flickr) this photo of Doug (my BF) and a few of his employees from a day trip that they took together earlier this summer. Designer Dave is at the far left, and Mark Made is in the foreground.
Can you believe Doug’s form? I wish I could take some credit, but I was not there to provide any kind of choreographic direction for the shot, and we still have yet to begin formal dance lessons with Mr. Jaeger. Perhaps he’s been influenced by all the dancing he’s had to see during our three years together? I am SO impressed!
Yesterday I tagged along on Doug’s company mini-trip. We all ventured out to Gladstone, New Jersey (an amazingly beautiful place) to do some off-roading in some Land Rovers. I had no idea how incredible these cars are. We were driving through streams, over massive rocks, down steep slopes, and the ride stayed smooth. The car also does this strange thing where you put it in Hill Decent Control mode and it drives itself down the hill. No braking required. Just steering. It felt like piloting one of those giant alien robot things from Resistance Fall of Man. I was a bad blogger that day, so all these photos are courtesy of Doug.

Into the water we go.
Woohoo.
Good to get some driving practice in before Savannah!
Cool weather/highway-driving helmet.
Back in it’s resting spot.
So my time in Saratoga Springs with NYCB is now officially over…
:(
I returned to the city yesterday, arriving tired but in one piece. (Can’t exactly say the same for all the buggies decorating the front of my helmet.)
I thought I’d give you one last little montage of images that haven’t made it on yet, before going back into NYC-posting mode….
Aaron Severini, dancer and composer extraordinaire,
in the SPAC parking lot. (that’s Adrian on his Vespa in the background.) I’m still kicking myself for missing his concert at the National Arts Club last month, but I’ll be sure to make it next time and give all of you plenty of notice as well!
The pool portion of the historic Victoria Pool.
(I think I only showed you the lounge area before.) This was a nice place to try to squeeze in some aquatic physical therapy. Wish there were one of these downtown.
My favorite person rode up to spend July 4th with me.
We had grand plans of trying to fit in a stop at Victoria Pool, or a quick ride up to Lake George, but alas, it rained for the entire 24 hours that he was here. Check out the fun stuff he designed for an article about improving the Bloomberg Terminal.
The SPAC dressing room scene.
Look, windows!
The Parting Glass, a downtown Saratoga Pub.
After the show on Friday night this was the only place in town that we could find still serving food. It gradually became populated with more and more dancers as the evening progressed.
Note to Saratoga restaurants… if you serve food late, they will come.
Joe from the NYCB press department, giving Mr. Albert Evans a final approval of photos appearing in the next brochure.
Doug made it back from sf this morning and now we are attending SweetTalk NYC at the Center for Architecture. Presentations from various artists throughout the day.
