Gina Gibney, a prominent NYC dancemaker, calls the Census a page-turner and a tear-jerker.
“How do you create stability and respect?”
“What has happened to women?”
She points out…
There are more women in dance, and statistically men receive more money than women.
“For most companies the only way to make money is to cash in on internationally known names.”
[She had lots more interesting things to say, but that’s as fast as my little cellphone-texting fingers could go]

Dance/NYC: A Census of New York City Dancemakers.
This morning I decided to check out the presentation that Dance/NYC is giving on their two years (!) worth of research on New York City’s non-profit dance community.
There’s an article about this by Claudia LaRocco in the New York Times this morning, with a quote from New York City Ballet’s General Manager, Ken Tabachnick. He is a great person to include, as he has a very unique perspective on the New York dance world… In addition to being NYCB’s GM, he is also a lighting designer for the Stephen Petronio Company among others. You’ll find his other impressive areas of expertise by clicking his name above.
