Dance in Unexpected Places

Last month, Merica May Jensen, formerly with Atlanta Ballet, held an event called The Hent Project at a performance space in Atlanta called Eyedrum. Jensen founded the project as a way to provide “an environment where artists come together in the creative process”. Dancers from Atlanta Ballet and other area dance companies performed, as well as musical artists, and spoken word artists. Artwork was displayed in the lobby, while the actual show took place in the small but sufficient performance space in the back of the facility.
I performed with fellow dancer, Rebecca Crawford, and was pleased to find the space absolutely packed to capacity. I really enjoyed taking part in this project, and found it such a different experience dancing in such an intimate space where audience members are so close to you. Jensen deserves so much credit for putting together such an amazing project, and hosting such a successful evening. I am quite sure she will soon be at it again.
