The end of May, we performed “water water” at LaMama theater. This time we performed at Inside/Out at Jacob’s Pillow.

I danced Muna’s new solo “for Her”, Muna danced ” for Stella” ( work in progress), Water water and Duet from Water Mysteries.
In this picture, Muna is sitting the audience area( wood blocks are the seat!) over looking the stage. On stage is rehersal of “Water water”.

Tech run of “Water water”

above Ted Shawn theater, wathercock is a dancer…
this is a back stage area for Inside/out. it is really a back of the stage( behind the stage) and it is pretty low. I could stand straight without hitting my head but I am 5″2′.

and of course while we were there, this is the Pillow!

“The lights dim, the trumpet fanfare begins the familiar strains of the “Le Corsair” pas de deux, and Rasta Thomas flies out of the wings in a brilliant series of soaring grand jetes. But when he steps aside to allow his partner to enter with her own flamboyant variation, the ballerina is a no-show. It’s an adorable little shtick that sets the tone for an evening designed to celebrate male virtuosity… and these bad boys are really, very, very good.”

Our performances at Jacob’s Pillow last week was well received by the loving audience and given good credit by the critics from the Berkshire Eagle, Boston Globe, and the New York Times papers. It was an exhilarating experience to perform with my Bad Boy brothers Rasta Thomas, Robbie Nicholson, Brian Arias, and the Lombard Twins. Jacob’s Pillow is for sure one of the best place to dance. I was amazed of how well the staff took care of us. And, the audiences was very loving and supportive.
I hope you guys enjoy these pictures. They offer a small glimpse of my experience last week. Thanks for those who came to see the show! (Tonya… and others!)

The picture above is the opening of my world premiere “Take 4″ which was a perfect intro piece to introduce the company.

“…Royon’ world premiere quartet “Take 4″ was dynamite… The four dancers came alive as if someone had just wound them up, and they exploded into movement that pushed at the edges…”

Oh, the Inside/Outside stage preview performance was interesting! I didn’t know that the stage was raked 7%. It made a lot of things really difficult. Here’s a picture of our rehearsal that day.

The picture above is me being held by my Prince (Brian Arias) as Robbie looks on in amazement! The piece is entitled “Figaro” a comedic ballet. It was fun!
If you’ve never heard of the Lombard Twins, then you have to check them out! www.lombardtwins.com
They are an amazing duo of hip-hop tapping twins! When they are not on stage. They are busy making little short films and making jokes. They were so fun to hang out with at the Derby House in Jacob’s Pillow. Here’s a picture of them on stage:
Also, here are two pictures of nature at Jacob’s Pillow! It’s sooooo green!

The Bad Boys of Dance kicked butt last week! Hard work! Great audience support! And THANK YOU ADRIENNE CANTERNA (Rasta’s wife) for keeping us in tip top condition for rehearsals and performances! Love you very much!!!

I went to Jacob’s Pillow last weekend to see my friend Idan Sharabi perform with NDT2 and just before I went into the Doris Duke Theatre, there was this tiny mouse running around by the artists entrance. Everyone was captivated and enjoyed nature’s little creature! It seemed so happy that if found some food! Who knows you might see him/her there if you come to Jacob’s Pillow.

One of our happy readers, Mr. Michael Kluger, was recently at Jacob’s Pillow to see Carla, Peter Boal and the Pacific Northwest Ballet perform. He was nice enough to give The Winger readers a glimpse of his experience from the audience perspective! Below, his own words….
Thanks Michael!

While I was at Jacob’s Pillow I had the pleasure of working with Mike van Sleen. Mike started to work at the Pillow in 1997 as a Audio Supervisor. In 2001, after being amazed over and over by all the people that passed the Pillow and seeing all the incredible records of dancers and artist, he decided to register this moments on his own way, continuing the tradition of capturing people and the artist inside them. Mike’s portraits are very special and are able to capture people very deeply. You can go to his web site and learn more about him, see some of his work and even buy prints of pictures you like.

The dressing rooms at the theater are full of signatures of the dancers that have performed there. This was my spot at the dressing room.
PNB left a nice mark on the wall next to the stage with all the company names together. Maybe some of you can see it next time you go there.
