TUNDRA

tony40.jpg | USA_flag | Posted by Tony Schultz

This weekend I am participating in the premiere performance of TUNDRA at the COOLNY Festival. This project is directed by my friend Mare Hieronimus who I introduced to you a few weeks ago. Mare is dancing with Marcy Schlissel and Elyse Sparkes to a hypnotic soundscore composed by Derek Morton. I will be performing through a virtual protazoa whose image will be projected in video. This is my first time doing live media performance with dancers. Here is a sneak preview of the creature and the sound.

Dance Conversations @ the Flea

Tonight I am going to Dance Conversations @ the Flea. This free monthly series, curated by Nina Winthrop, takes place at the Flea Theater and features work by emerging choreographers. The goal is to provide an informal setting where artists can show their work and engage in open discourse with audience members and other artists. This evening’s conversation will be moderated by Yanira Castro. The featured artists will be Nora Chipaumire, Maré Auriel Hieronimus, Claire Porter and Diane Vivona.

Maré Hieronimus
, one of this evenings participating artists, is a good friend of mine and a fellow Sarah Lawrence College alumnus. She will be showing spark/perch/till. I have been meeting with Maré over the past month to collaborate on a new dance she is manifesting called TUNDRA. Maré is a gorgeous dancer and a wonderful choreographer. It has been amazing exchanging ideas with Maré and developing a common language with which we can communicate and navigate through the deep space we both inhabit. I will keep everyone posted on upcoming opportunities to see Maré’s work.

Hope to see you tonight.
