BENNYROYCE ROYON is originally from the Philippines. He began his dance training at 16 with the Evergreen City Ballet Academy. In 2006, Bennyroyce received his B.F.A. degree in Dance from The Juilliard School. While at Juilliard, he danced works by Jose Limon, Jessica Lang, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Paul Taylor, Ron Brown, Mark Morris, Eliot Feld and Alan Hineline.

In summers past, Bennyroyce participated in Ballet Divertimento’s Professional Project in Montreal. He has worked with a select group of dancers and choreographer Aszure Barton, under the supervision of Mikhail Baryshnikov, for a residency to inaugurate the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City. Bennyroyce has performed with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Sidra Bell Dance New York, Nilas Martins Dance Company, Chamber Dance Project, Rebecca Davis Dance Company, and The Metropolitan Opera Ballet.

His choreographic works have been presented in Montreal, Frostburg-MD, Seattle, and at Lincoln Center and Reverb Festival in New York City. Currently, he is dancing with Rasta Thomas and his company “Bad Boys of Dance.” The company will debut on July 26th at Jacob’s Pillow. Bennyroyce will join Cas Public in Montreal on August 2007.

[…] Okay, on to Bad Boys of Dance, which we saw, first in snippets at an outdoor production on Wednesday afternoon, then in whole in the Doris Duke theater on Thursday night. What fun, as I knew it would be Like Mimulus, the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, very multi-talented group blended ballet with contemporary social dances — here not ballroom, but jazz, hip hop, capoeira / martial arts, gymnastics, and, as danced by guest artists, the cute Argentinian Lombard twins, bluesy tap and hip hop. The four-man group is led by probably the most famous contemporary dancer with ballet origins, Arab-American heartthrob Rasta Thomas. The others include Filipino-Canadian Bennyroyce Royon (a Winger contributor without whom I wouldn’t have heard of the group - thanks Bennyroyce!); Bryan Arias, a ballet dancer from Puerto Rico; and Broadway and competitive dancer Robbie Nicholson.
