GIA KOURLAS is the Dance Editor of Time Out New York. She was inspired to contribute to The Winger after reading one too many posts about the fabulousness of Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, the happy memory of seeing David Hallberg at Jérôme Bel’s “The Show Must Go On” at Dance Theater Workshop two years ago and Kristin Sloan, whose efforts at demystifying ballet are unparalleled. One of her frustrations about the dance world is that it seems to exist in two spheres—there is wonderful classical ballet and contemporary dance, but a lot of dull stuff in between.
