JUSTIN PECK grew up in San Diego, California, and was raised amidst a culture of beach-bum surfers and the straight-and-narrows of suburban living. He was inspired by Savion Glover and the men of American Ballet Theatre to begin dancing at the age of 13, finding it to be a substantial creative outlet for himself. Eager and anxious to escape Southern California, he gravitated towards New York City, moving there at the early age of 15 to study dance at the School of American Ballet (SAB). He took to the pace of both New York City and SAB with enthusiasm. After 3 years at SAB playing a game of ballet catch-up (in the ballet world, 13 is thought of as being a late age to begin training), his hard work and ambitions shined through and was invited to join the New York City Ballet in 2006. ![]() Justin in the SAB studios. So far, his time at City Ballet has been wholly stimulating, to say the least. He has been given great opportunities to dance in many works over the course of his first year, including Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto, Peter Martin’s new Romeo and Juliet, and Christopher Wheeldon’s Scénes De Ballet. He has been enjoying the process of discovering how a company of such magnitude functions. Justin is also a student at Columbia University. He attends on a part-time basis, attempting to squeeze in classes on his day off from dancing and during mornings before ballet. He enjoys the challenge of juggling a full-time dancing career with his pursuit towards higher education, along with his many other creative interests. |

The adjectives just don’t do it justice. (NYCB’s rehearsal of “Romeo + Juliet”) « said,
[…] During their hour break, Daniel sat with us and we chatted. I loved seeing all the dancers interact–Daniel and Albert imitated a dance from that stupid 877-313-4-4-4-8 commercial (you know it if you live in NYC), and Daniel and Robbie were doing secret handshakes on stage. Kathryn Morgan and Erica Pereira came and each rehearsed the balcony scenes with their “Romeo’s.” There were a few trouble spots, so they kept dancing until the beginning of the next act was going to start. I spotted The Winger’s Justin Peck on-stage and off. […]
